Project 365 - Day 3

I had a vision of what this moose would look like, but this isn't it.  So, I'll try again another day.

I'll have to revisit it and figure out how I want this to look.

Since I wasn't really happy with the moose photo, and it was snowing (and the only thing the Lumix isn't good for is wet/snowy conditions, as it's not truly weather-sealed), I decided to get some photos of the girls.  New and different? Not really, but I like the different angles.

And since I had a ring light handy, I pulled it out for a few photos. I really want to play around with the ring light some other time, so this is just a bit of a mental reminder.

And, I couldn't resist a photo of the Sisters Dranow.  All 4 of them.

Project 365 (?)

Maybe.  We'll see how much life interferes.  But I'd really like to get back to 'seeing' things, and it seems this project always drives me to see things in new ways.  The sundog was amazing, and the photos of the girls aren't "special" but why I love taking their photos - I'll look back at these in years to come and enjoy them.

Lumix LX10

So, I took the plunge and bought a compact camera.  Technically it is still listed as a 'point and shoot' camera, but it's a point and shoot camera like a pin hole camera is a point and shoot camera - that is, it's not really your father's point and shoot (to steal a line from Oldsmobile ads).  Other than (possibly) a remote trigger release (which I think it does have) and off-camera flash options (which I doubt it has, but the manual is intimidating) and not being able to change lenses, this camera has all the features (in my limited use so far) that the DSLRs have - all shooting options (manual, shutter priority, aperture priority, etc.), a huge range of focus points, and on and on.  Again, I think I've only barely scratched the surface of what the camera can do.

But, after a bit of shooting yesterday, I can safely say I'm wildly impressed, and very happy with the purchase.

I took it on yesterday's morning walk (which is one of the main reasons I wanted a compact camera).

"I'm a Good Dog! Trust me!"

She looks a little scary...
Mom! Make him get off his phone and start walking!

A tired puppy is a good puppy!

Office dog.

I think my co-worker is slacking!

Another post-walkie photo.

Clever girl likes to cool her belly on the tiles!

Feety-feets!

Lucy-Fur is many things, but subtle is not one of them.

My feedback from my first week of class for storytelling with photography was that I needed to think more like a wedding photographer, and remember that the bride isn't in every photo.  Okay.  So, this week's submission avoids the bride, bridesmaids, ring bearers, even the caterer:

It seems a little non-subtle to me, but we'll see what feedback I get this time.

Storytelling (?)

With the underlying theme "It's The Dogs'  House and They Just Let Us Live Here", here was my first submission to my class.  I'm not super thrilled with how the images in my brain translated into what I got with my camera.  I think some of it is that I'm struggling with the story I'm trying to tell - I'm wrestling a bit with the 'natural' story of the dogs.  I think because Fi's story was so easy to tell, I'm having a hard time shifting to identifying the story with the youngsters.  It's there, I just can't force it.

Walkies

Yes, the very nice Pakistani runners my gave us are covered in dog toys. What can I say? It's the dogs' house...

Apparently it's not my couch...

After meeting with a good friend and former AP photographer (and amazing creator of photographic art, I'm thinking about trying look at details, as well as the Big Picture.  I'm not sure if they next story will be a dog walk or not, but I'm playing around with it.
