Project 365 - Day 31

Well, I was going to post photos of my latest new-to-me camera, but I figured I could take some on a work day when I am more pressed for time.

Today was a perfect day for crazy dog zoomies!  Lucy-Fur can't catch a Frisbee - I don't know if she doesn't understand the concept, or just doesn't care. But she likes pouncing on Frisbees and racing around the yard with them.

Daisy was more interested in barking at dogs across the canyon than chasing Frisbees, but she did plant herself in the snow and then stood looking ridiculous dramatic.

Here's a sneak peek of my latest new-to-me camera.....

Project 365 - Day 30

We got snow yesterday late in the day and through the night. As we started on our walk this morning, the storm was clearing out.

In reality, the left side was still quite dark from the clouds, but this is close.

This is a bit of a place-holder; all these downed trees intrigue me, but I don't know what about them intrigues me, so I don't really know how to photograph them.

Heading back down the hill, the storm mostly gone. (I also like the tree that is growing sideways - it's that way in the summer, too.)

Dad, I was thinking about your sand dune dilemma, and as I was walking home I say this mini cornice of snow, and thought that while you were playing with sand dunes, we had snow dunes!

Project 356 - Day 29

Well, the first couple of photos didn't really come out as I saw them.  I was looking at the snow in the branches, pondering whether it looked like cotton balls when Gary commented that the snow in the branches looked like cotton balls (great minds and all that, I guess).  But the photos don't really look like how I saw it.

And this one didn't look like what I was seeing at all, so I figured I'd play around with a little processing to at least make it look dramatic-like.

At least my favorite tree was doing a good job looking dramatic (the dark skies were heading our way; it started snowing about 4pm).

I like it in black and white, too. Maybe a little heavy, but dramatic.

And today was a fun yoga morning, although I didn't quite get a wide-enough angle shot.  Maybe one of the days I'll have to try something other than my phone.

Yeah, so those need some work. I have to figure out something to get a wider angle shot without going full fisheye!

Project 365 - Day 28

Our walk was cold and snowy and windy and the road conditions were challenging, so I wasn't really "seeing" anything on the walk.

So, I figured I'd break out my my No. 1 Pocket Kodak because an old camera is always interesting.

f/32 aperture; that's amazing!

These old cameras are a thing of beauty!

Daisy decided that she was more interesting than the camera.

She's not wrong. I mean, those eyes!

Project 365 - Day 27

Some days I have some idea of what I'm hoping to see, and other days I hope inspiration strikes.

First, I thought maybe the deer might be cool, but they were fast suckers, and by the time I got my camera out of my coat pocket they went from being nicely lined up on the hill to eating bushes...

No inspiration there.

And then when we saw two moose in the neighborhood, I thought they would be great to photograph, but the dogs were making the moose antsy, so no luck there.

And then I saw that they had the big snow removal equipment out; when they start pushing snow back from the sides of the roads, it's a sign they are expecting a big snow.

Snowplow in action.

This is where they get serious about moving snow off the roads.

And while we haven't had a ginormous amount of snow so far, we definitely had enough snow for snow zoomies!

So, snow inspiration!

Project 365 - Day 26

For some reason, I felt the *need* to get some photos of me doing yoga.  First, I just wanted to show off my side plank.  While I can't do some of the slightly more advanced poses (crow pose, I'm looking at you), the side plank has gone from a laughable attempt last May when I started doing yoga again, after a many-years hiatus to something that I can do and has even gotten to something that I actually enjoy.

And after much moving around my phone (I haven't figured out how to set up a remote shutter release with my little cameras), to get most of a side plank photo, I became a bit obsessed with trying to figure out how to get photos in my little yoga space. I won't say I've got it dialed in yet, but I spent a good 45 minutes trying to find places to put my phone and it's little tripod to get better photos. And I got to play around a bit with the desk lamp in the office for extra lighting.

And because in the yoga series that I'm doing now involved side planks yesterday, and someone posted a photo of her with her top leg up high, I thought I'd see what I could do.  Not much, but it was entertaining, and an opportunity to practice humility as I fell over.

Of course, then I had to try some tree poses from different angles to see what worked.

Been there, done that with this angle.

"Oh please don't let me fall over..."

I don't remember what the name of this pose is, but I believe the Sanskrit translation is something to the effect of "Dogs, watch out, your Momma doesn't have the best balance".

I clearly didn't have the camera positioned correctly to photograph Daisy checking to see if I had injured myself or if breakfast would still be on time.  (I was actually on the ground on purpose, and yes, breakfast was still on time.)

So, not just some photos of something I'm enjoying and is part of my morning ritual, but an attempt to figure out how to get photos in my little space.

And then we went on a cold dog walk, and didn't think I'd see much of anything interesting.  But I thought I'd try a landscape because, you know, why not?

And then as we were heading for home, I saw something on the hillside.

This was as zoomed as I can get, even with the 270mm zoom.

Cropped in from that; Ms. Moose having her breakfast.

Project 365 - Day 25

Fog.

It was a cold morning, and there was fog in the valley.  As we walked through the lower part of the neighborhood we walked through the fog and then rose out of the fog.  It was cold, but very pretty!

Up above the fog, looking down into Snyderville Basin.

And part of the mailbox sculptures; this amused me because with the snow, it looks to me like the cowboy is herding his cattle through deep snow.

Project 365 - Day 24

Post-snow day.

Wow.  We live in such an amazingly beautiful place!  The weather forecast called for snow showers, and since I still haven't seen any evidence that the Panasonic cameras are weather-sealed (meaning, they can be out in rain/snow without risking damage to the camera) I took out the Olympus (the camera I got for photographing Fi in the pool).

A mix of sun and clouds (and a complete absence of snow showers...), and since I haven't really been happy with my editing of the landscape photos in Photoshop, I thought I'd see what the Topaz Studio had (this is probably only of interest to my father, but since it is of interest to him, I mention it!).  I really like some of the black and white effects I found, and so-so about some of the color effects I found, but it's fun playing around with the effects, so blame any overly-processed photos on my having not used Topaz Studio in ages...

Same hill, new ski tracks! (I was actually more interested in the trees covered in snow, but I couldn't resist including the "ski hill")

Usually once the storm moves through there is enough wind to blow the snow off the trees, but not this time.

I like this tree and rocks combination, and figure I'll probably photograph it regularly over the course of the year, so getting it in new snow seemed like a good idea.

The moose weathervane from the other day has a snow hat on!

This photo in particular made me want to see what it looked like in black and white (and I wanted to pretend to be Ansel Adams, so I did).

I particularly like this photo in black and white - it looks very dramatic!

And since I was on a roll, I converted a few other photos to black and white.

This last once I also liked in color, because of the dark sky behind the trees.

And for those of you who want to know.... We did have another inch or two overnight, and so the girls were fully kitted out in snowpants and boots (Smokey, be vary happy that you live in a place where snow is rare, and that you don't have fur that attracts snowballs like magnets attract iron filings.)  The girls are never thrilled to get geared up, but once we get moving, they don't seem to mind the weather gear. And when we get home, we are thrilled that they aren't covered in snow/road grit, and that they haven't gotten snow/ice between their toes (refer back to the comment about fur and snowballs - the fur between their toes attracts snowballs just like the rest of their fur).

Note the complete lack of enthusiasm on the part of the girls - I don't think they want the entire interwebs laughing at them!

And because we didn't have a bunch of new snow, but still enough, I can bring you another in the Snow Removal Equipment series....
